Politics in Tamil Nadu never stops developing as the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi joins hands with the DMK for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The DMK has allotted 2 seats for the VCK.

Chennai: In yet another political development in Tamil Nadu, the DMK has finalised its alliance with the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK). Thol Thirumavalavan-led VCK will contest from two seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as part of the DMK alliance.

Sources close to Thirumavalavan told MyNation that two seats have been confirmed for the VCK, but the constituencies are not discussed as of now.

“VCK has been given two seats, that has been confirmed. But no word on Chidambaram or any other constituencies,” said Shivaraj, Thirumavalavan’s manager.

The VCK chief had always contested from Chidambaram all these years, but the party has no clarity on that in the alliance.

Speaking about the party symbol, Shivaraj said that the party has applied for another symbol. "We have asked for the ring symbol. We will not adopt the rising sun symbol," added Shivaraj.

Shivaraj also went on to say that the CPI and the CPI(M) have also been allotted two seats each.

Seat-sharing talks came to a standstill after the DMDK failed to make a decision on which party they wanted to join hands with.

The party saw itself caught in a tug-of-war between the DMK and the AIADMK.

BJP’s senior leader Piyush Goyal, who was in Chennai to finalise deals with the AIADMK and the PMK, even visited the DMDK chief Vijayakanth at his residence. However, there was no confirmation on what the visit was about, although they said it was a “courtesy visit”.

DMK too tried to rope in the DMDK, but the talks came to screeching halt. Meanwhile, the DMK began allotting seats for its other alliance partners.

DMK has already given 10 seats to the Congress and 1 to Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

DMK’s talks are ongoing with other parties and DMDK is yet to arrive at a decision.

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Chennai on March 6 and all alliance parties are expected to be present.
