As reported in the media, cricketer-turned-politician Mohammad Azharuddin will not be contesting from Hyderabad. When MyNation spoke to him, he denied the claims outright

Bengaluru: When Mohammad Azharuddin wielded his bat on a cricket pitch, he was not less than a magician. His cuts, his drives and his signature wristy shots were a treat to watch. He has had phenomenal success in the world of cricket. And when he retired from cricket and began a new innings in the field of politics, he has had a good run, with winning MP election from the Moradabad constituency in 2009.

Lately, there are news reports floating around that Azhar would be pitted against Asaduddin Owaisi of the AIMIM from the Hyderabad constituency. But these reports may be far from truth as MyNation spoke to Azhar himself who denied any such claims. And when his personal assistant was contacted, he too categorically brushed aside the claims, saying he would contest either from Secunderabad or Mumbai.

Interestingly, it was the Congress unit of Telangana that was keen on betting on Azhar from Hyderabad. In fact, he was made one of the working presidents of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) last year.

Presently, Hyderabad constituency is being represented by Owaisi on an AIMIM ticket, while Secunderabad is being represented by Bandaru Dattatreya, on a BJP ticket. Dattatreya also happens to be a former Union minister.

Azharuddin was one of the most successful Indian captains. He has played 99 Tests and 334 ODIs for India. He has to his credit scoring three consecutive hundreds in his first three Tests. Though he had an illustrious career, he was embroiled in match-fixing controversies, which forced him to cut his career tersely.

Later, he threw his hat into the political ring.  He contested on a Congress ticket from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh in the year 2009. But in 2014, he contested from Tonk-Madhopur, Rajasthan, but did not taste success.
