New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that mild tremors were felt in the Delhi-NCR region on Thursday (August 8) early morning after an earthquake of 5.8 magnitude jolted the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. Reports said, at 6:15 am on Thursday the earthquake occurred 50km from Taleqan, which is situated in the Hindu Kush region.
Spanning from Afghanistan in the west to Myanmar in the east, the Hindu Kush Himalayan Mountain range is spread over 3,500 km across eight countries. Reports said the earthquake of this magnitude can cause slight damage to infrastructure.
No casualties are reported yet. And it is also reported that this is the second time an earthquake has occurred today. At 5.30 am, 5.8 magnitude earthquake jolted off the northeastern coast of Taiwan. It is also said that the earthquake struck 10 km below the earth's surface.
Earlier on Monday, an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit Choram region of Iran's Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province. According to Xinhua news agency, the epicentre of the quake was reported to be at a depth of 10 km, 50.790 degrees east longitude and 30.594 degrees north latitude.
