The woman leader was the block secretariat member and district committee member of the DYFI and resigned from the post as the party had allegedly fired few party members who had supported her.
Palakkad: The Palakkad Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has refused to accept the resignation of its woman leader who raised a sexual abuse complaint against CPM leader PK Sasi.
She was the block secretariat member and district committee member of the DYFI and resigned from the post as the party had allegedly fired some of the party members who had supported her. She also said many within the party had abused her on social media during the reorganisation undertaken last week.
Three women members of DYFI in Pathanamthitta district too have tendered their resignation today (June 19). According to sources, they resigned due to mental stress and internal issues within the party. The report also stated that few DYFI members had forwarded lewd messages to them. The women also mentioned in the report that they were distanced by party members when they refused to participate in party activities that we held far away from the residences.
DYFI district secretariat member Jinesh, who supported the woman leader, also had quit the party and alleged that while juniors had been elevated, he had been sidelined by the party for no reason.
Meanwhile, the party has come forward saying that they accepted the resignation from Jinesh as he failed to appear at secretariat meetings of the party for the required number of times.
Regarding the sexual allegations, Sasi was suspended for six months in the state committee meeting on November 26 on the basis of the report submitted by party leaders PK Sreemathy and AK Balan, who were appointed to investigate the complaint. The report said that Sasi made obscene phone calls to the woman.
The DYFI woman leader had complained about sexual harassment by CPI(M) MLA (Shoranur) Sasi in early September 2018. The complaint letter was submitted to CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury. The letter stated that Sasi tried to grab her after calling her to the committee office in Mannarkad.
