DRDO will build covid treatment centres in Delhi and Ahmedabad as the country sees a massive surge in the number of cases

Bengaluru: Even as India continues to battle the second wave of covid pandemic, with several states reporting an astronomical surge in the number of cases, the nation’s premier defence organisation – DRDO – will build covid treatment hospitals.

As reports suggest, DRDO will revive one such hospital in Delhi, with a capacity of 500 beds and an ICU.

Reports add further that initially, the hospital will have 250 beds. Doctors from both military and paramilitary forces will be in action.

Its twitter handle read: “Preparation underway to reactivate DRDO established COVID-19 centre in Delhi Cantt. The centre is likely to begin from Sunday with initial capacity of 250 beds which will be increased by another 250 in the next few days”.

Not just in Delhi, even in Ahmedabad, the DRDO, in collaboration with Gujarat government, will come up with a 900-bed covid hospital. It will have 150 ICU beds with 150 ventilators and will open within 15 days at the Gujarat University Convention Centre on the GMDC ground, report add.

While the efforts to build the hospital are one, India completed vaccinating 11 crore people as on today (March 15). It should also be noted that the government has organised Tika Utsav, an initiative to vaccinate as many people as possible.
rers have also volunteered to reduce the price of the anti-viral drug to less than Rs 3,500 by the weekend.

Curfews in place:

Though Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ruled out any prospects of a lockdown, several states in the country have imposed curfews to tackles the rising cases.

In Karnataka, the government has imposed a night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am.
