After 500 long years, Ayodhya temple site will be lit as part of Diwali

Bengaluru: It will indeed be a historic moment for Ayodhya.

Reports add that earthen lamps will be lit to illuminate Ram Janmabhoomi site in the temple town. This development comes after 500 long years.

The occasion will be Diwali.

Reports add that chief minister Yogi Adityanath will light lamps during the ‘Deepotsav’ programme in the city on 13 November.

According to Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust chief Mahant Nritya Gopal Das said: “It will be a real Diwali this year, which will celebrate the return of Lord Ram after a prolonged exile.”

State tourism minister Neelkanth Tiwari was quoted as saying thus: “If there was no coronavirus pandemic, lakhs of devotees would have participated in this programme.”

The chief minister has already directed that separate programmes should be organised daily during ‘Deepotsav 2020’, following the COVID protocols.

Around 5.51 lakh earthen lamps will also be lit at Ram Ki Paidi in Ayodhya. India celebrates Diwali on 14 November.

More on the event:

It is also to be noted that monasteries and houses too will be illuminated. As part of the event, singing of ‘bhajans’ and Ramayana recitals will also be held in monasteries. A grand decoration of Ayodhya on the Festival of Lights is on the cards.

Illumination at all temples, including Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, Kanak Bhawan, Ram Ki Paidi, and Hanuman Garhi would be done through electric lighting.

But keeping in mind the Coronavirus pandemic, several measures have also been taken.

So the devotees, however, will participate through the virtual platforms. A digital broadcast of the Diwali programmes will be done for the devotees who would not be able to physically visit the temples owing to coronavirus restrictions.

It is to be noted that since 2017, the BJP government has been organising grand ‘Deepotsav’ or Festival of Lights in Ayodhya on Diwali every year.
