Devendra Fadnavis resigns as Maharashtra chief minister

Mumbai: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has resigned from his post as his term has come to an end today (November 8). He submitted his resignation to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

"Unfortunately,day when results came,Uddhav ji said all options open for Govt formation.That was shocking for us as people had given mandate for alliance and in such circumstances it was a big question for us that why he said all options are open for him, " said outgoing CM Fadnavis.

Though BJP emerged as the single largest party in Maharashtra in the recently Assembly election, due to Shiv Sena's demand of equal power (50:50) sharing including the post of chief minister, the government could not be formed in the state.

Addressing the issue, earlier, Union minister Nitin Gadkari had said that the BJP has had no deal with Shiv Sena regarding equal share in power or chief minister's post.

"There was no deal between the BJP and the Shiv Sena over equal sharing of portfolios in Maharashtra,” Gadkari had said.

Meanwhile, after refuting the claims of resort politics, Shiv Sena has holed up its 56 MLAs in a hotel in Mumbai. Reports said that the MLAs will be kept in Hotel Hotel Rangsharda, Mumbai, till November 15.

Shiv Sena has sought security arrangements from the Mumbai Police commissioner, reported news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Gadkari has reiterated that the BJP never had any discussions with Shiv Sena regarding chief minister's post and equal power sharing.

Reacting on the same, NCP chief Sharad Pawar had said that there might be President's rule but fresh polls will not be conducted.

“President's Rule, maybe, but no fresh polls in Maharashtra anytime soon," said Pawar.
