More on the CAA:
The Citizenship Amendment Act passed by both houses of the Indian Parliament last December grants citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim persecuted minorities from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh which are declared Islamic states.
With the amendment, it is expected that around 32000 minorities will be granted citizenship.
But wilful resorting to lies and misinformation by the Congress that it targets Indian Muslims and strips them of their citizenship has given rise to a lot of needless protests and riots in the country.
At the same time, both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah have repeatedly stated that the Act enables minorities from the three countries to integrate with India on a social and emotional basis and it doesn’t target any Indian citizen.
Presently more than 100 petitions lie with the top court seeking the quashing of the Act. The top court is hearing the case but as prayed by the petitioners, the top court refused to stay it without seeking a response by the government.
Most importantly, the anti-CAA protests in places like Shaheen Bagh have seen anti-India and anti-Hindu slogans being shouted.
Sharjeel Imam, a member of Tukde Tukde gang also called the severing of Assam and northeast from the rest of India. Presently, he is being interrogated by the police.
Also, in other places, like Delhi, riots have taken place killing more than 40 people and injuring more than a hundred.
In fact, Kerala CM Pinarayai Vijayan himself asked protesters in Kerala to be wary of extremist elements. He also received death threats for it.
