New Delhi: In an unprecedented move, Delhi police on a complaint has arrested two former officials of the Supreme Court who were sacked after allegedly posting an order on the court's website saying that Reliance Communications Chief Anil Ambani's presence in the case had been dispensed with, instead of stating that it had not been dispensed with.

According to the crime branch, accused have been identified as court Manav Sharma and his assistant registrar Tapan Kumar Chakraborty. They were sacked by the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi following a complaint that they had tampered with an order asking Anil Ambani for personal presence in a contempt case.

"During investigation, we have found clear evidence against duo and they also could not provide satisfactory answer to the investigators. We have arrested them and will be produced in the court," the officer said.

The arrests have been made after Justices R F Nariman and Vineet Sharan directed Anil Ambani’s personal presence on the contempt plea by Swedish telecom group Ericsson.

But, order uploaded on the court’s official website said “personal appearance of the alleged contemnor(s) is dispensed with”, twisting actual order of the court giving Ambani a miss from appearing in court.

Later, Supreme court updated the order saying “personal appearance of the alleged contemnor(s) is not dispensed with”. The digital signature on the order shows it was uploaded on January 9.
