Delhi gets light rain, braces for more as heat takes backseat

New Delhi: The capital city witnessed light rain on Tuesday morning, bringing down the temperature in the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that more thunderstorm along with gusty winds is expected in some areas over the next 24 hours. 

According to the authorities, the sudden rainfall is due to an approaching western disturbance. 

The maximum temperature on Tuesday is expected to be around 36 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperature could settle at 28 degrees Celsius.

Pollution in the capital city is also marked as moderate today with PM 2.5 (fine particulate matter) at 174 maximum and PM 10 at 370 maximum. 

On Monday, while the maximum temperature settled around 40 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal, the minimum temperature was recorded at 25 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal.

The IMD, recently, said that this year the monsoon is expected to be ‘near normal’ with an average of 96% and with 5% error margin. 

"Overall, the country is expected to have well-distributed rainfall scenario during the 2019 monsoon season, which will be beneficial to farmers in the country during the ensuing Kharif (summer-planting) season," the IMD said in its forecast, according to reports.
