Ahead of the much-awaited Delhi Assembly polls that is scheduled for February 8, the Congress workers staged a protest over ticket distribution to party leaders, expressing their angst against president Sonia Gandhi
New Delhi: A group of Congress workers protested, raising their voice against their own party president Sonia Gandhi outside her residence over ticket distribution for forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
The protestors, from Patel Nagar and Karawal Nagar assembly constituencies, raised slogans ahead of the party's announcement of election candidates.
The group was upset over speculations that leaders Arvind Singh and Harman Singh might not get tickets from Karawal Nagar and Patel Nagar constituencies, respectively.
The angry demonstrators also blocked the way for Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Subhash Chopra, while he was travelling in his car.
Adding that the final announcement will be made by the party today, Chopra said most candidates have been finalised, and the party is likely to have a tie-up with RJD.
The voting for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held on February 8. The counting of votes will take place on February 11.
Earlier, AAP leader Narayan Dutt Sharma accused the national capital's deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia of asking him to shell out Rs 10 crore for the party ticket from Badarpur constituency.
"Manish Sisodia called me to his house and said that 20-21 crore were being offered by Ram Singh for the ticket from my constituency, and then proceeded to ask me how much I was ready to cough up. Sisodia asked me for Rs 10 crore. I said that I did not have the money as I am an honest man," Sharma told reporters.
He further accused the party of giving tickets in exchange for money in several constituencies.
"There are many places where tickets have been taken away from party leaders and given to others in exchange for bags filled with money," he said.
