Deepthi Bopaiah: Leading charge for sporting excellence in India

Founded in 2008, the GoSports Foundation is a non-profit organisation that has worked toward providing young athletes with opportunities and professional expertise. Deepthi Bopaiah joined the organisation in 2012 and led it to new milestones. 

Founded in 2008, GoSports is a non-profit organization that has done an excellent job of guiding and providing professional expertise to India’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes. It provides many athlete scholarships and programmes for upcoming talents in India. 

It is a donor-funded venture with trustees like Indian cricket coach and former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid, All England Badminton Champion Pullela Gopichand, former physiotherapist of the Indian Cricket Team John Gloster, and world-ranked junior tennis player and businessman Abishek Laxminarayan.

In 2022, Deepthi Bopaiah was announced as the CEO of the GoSports Foundation. In the same year, Team India performed exceptionally well at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and made the nation proud. Let’s take a look at Deepthi’s journey from being a banker to the chief executive officer of GoSports and leading it to success. 

Sports-fuelled childhood

Growing up in Bangalore, Deepthi always had an interest in sports and was involved in sports and athleticism. She is a fantastic sportswoman and has represented her state Karnataka in Tennis and Basketball. 

Professional Journey

Deepthi did her MBA in finance and marketing from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies. Later she worked as a Wealth Advisor at HDFC Bank. In 2012, she joined the GoSports Foundation as a Communication and Marketing Director. 

Achieving Excellence

In 2019, the foundation was honoured with the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Award – National Sports Encouragement Award by the President of India for identifying and nurturing budding young talent. This was made possible by the hard work and leadership executed by Deepthi. 

Leading as CEO

Deepthi has worked with more than 200 Indian athletes and has been a great leader for the organisation. The foundation has achieved numerous milestones under Deepthi’s leadership and guidance. She has worked tremendously to form trustworthy partnerships with sponsors and government bodies. In 2022, she was also selected for the Chevening Gurukul Fellowship awarded by the Foreign Commonwealth Office at the University of Oxford.
