Deep Dive with Abhinav Khare: True essence, significance of Independence Day in India

Abhinav Khare deep dives to the year 1947 when India got its Independence on August 15. We cannot undo the past 72 years, wherever we have failed, but we can definitely learn from our mistakes and truly be a great nation. That is the essence of our democracy! That is the essence of India!

"Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially.”

At the stroke of midnight, when the world sleeps, India woke up to life and freedom. A moment comes, but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance.

It is fitting that at this solemn moment we take the pledge of dedication to the service of India and her people and to the still larger cause of humanity.” – Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru

Deep Dive with Abhinav Khare dates back to August 15, 1947, which was a day every Indian on earth celebrated with great pride. On this day, we won our Independence from the clutches of the British, who stole our all. However, it’s time we realise our freedom.

Today, let us remember the sacrifices of our brave freedom fighter, some celebrated but most forgotten in the pages of history. These are the people who have given their all for us, for this democracy which is centred around us, for this freedom. We cannot undo the past 72 years, wherever we have failed, but we can definitely learn from our mistakes and truly be a great nation. That is the essence of our democracy! That is the essence of India!

Did we forget the significance of this day too soon? Did we prioritise individual freedom and gains over national freedom? Did our sense of pride and arrogance win over this hard-earned freedom that our freedom fighters gifted us? The awakening of the masses that was achieved during the freedom, has it gone back to sleep?

Achieving freedom from the all and mighty British wasn’t a cakewalk, yet it was made possible by our freedom fighters. It is the freedom of their blood and sweat that we enjoy today. We should forever be grateful to them and exercise our rights and proudly be a part of this vibrant democracy so that we can lead our country to glory, prosperity, equality and development.

Let us celebrate this Independence Day, standing together united, and walking the path shown by our freedom fighters. That shall be a true tribute to our patriots! Jai Hind!
