In yet another development in the data theft case, the Andhra Pradesh has also constituted an SIT.

A day after Telangana constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe data theft case charges, the Andhra Pradesh government has also set up an SIT to investigate the case.

The principal secretary, home, AR Anuradha, issued an order constituting a nine-member SIT to be headed by additional director general of police and transport commissioner N Bala Subramanyam.

A case has been registered in Guntur district on a complaint by Cabinet minister K Kala Venkat Rao, who is also president of Andhra Pradesh unit of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

He alleged that a conspiracy was hatched between YSR Congress leaders and some senior police officials of Telangana to steal the data belonging to the TDP.

In response to Telangana, Andhra too constituted an SIT to probe data theft.

On Tuesday, Reddy had sought Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s resignation over the alleged data theft of over three crore voters of Andhra Pradesh by the Hyderabad-based company IT Grids.

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday claimed that no government data had been stolen as it had taken a "very serious" view of a senior Telangana Police official's remarks on the alleged data theft through a mobile app of TDP.

"The Cabinet also decided to explore options for legal action against Cyberabad Police commissioner VC Sajjanar over his comments on the investigation into the case at a press conference in Hyderabad on Monday," said state information and public relations minister Kalava Srinivasulu.

While Sajjanar had said preliminary investigation into the case revealed the company got "illegal" access to the data, the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet maintained that no data had been stolen.

Andhra Pradesh Cabinet members alleged that the Telangana government was trying to portray the victim as the accused.

The Cyberabad Police had on Saturday registered a case against the Hyderabad-based IT Grids India Pvt Ltd and conducted searches at its office in Cyberabad based on a complaint by a data analyst that TDP cadre was using Seva Mitra app for collecting data of Andhra Pradesh voters and "advancing their party's electoral prospects".

Srinivasulu accused the Telangana government of trying to steal data and pass it on to a rival political party, in an oblique reference to the YSR Congress party.
