A number of people have joined hands in ensuring as many people as possible get the vaccination and also serve food to the needy in Dakshina Kannada
Bengaluru: The viral vengeance unleashed on India is hard. As people lose lives and livelihoods, it is only vaccination that will keep the nation safe.
Dakshina Kannada in Karnataka is one of the most badly affected districts. And the people of Mangaluru have come out in full force to help out the authorities in whatever way possible.
In an initiative taken up by citizens, teachers in age group of 18-44 in Mangaluru are being vaccinated.
Dhanashree, vaccination in-charge says, “Teachers in the age group of 18-44 are being vaccinated. Under annexure 3, we are collecting all possible details related to them,” as reported by India Today.
While the government finds it difficult to vaccinate all, it is the private players who have jumped in, buying doses directly from the Serum Institute.
On an average, they are vaccinating 3000 people.
Saghir Siddiqui, Regional COO, Manipal Healthcare says, “The idea is to ensure everyone completes the process – from registration to vaccination – in a time period of 35 minutes. We want to increase the capacity to 2500 to 3000 jabs a day”.
It is not just the private players who are helping the needy and necessitous. Even the common man has jumped in, providing food and other essentials who are in need of them.
Hanumanth Kamath, an NGO secretary says, “Since the lockdown, we have been providing food to 3000 – 4000 people. At the same time, we also provide snacks to 600 to 700 people”.
Apart from such NGOs, even youngsters are doing their bit to ease the situation. 2 youngsters – Adhvik and Amol - have created a website that has all the requisite information.
Adhvik, one of the developers says, “There was no proper covid website. There are a lot of databases available, but our goal was to make one with as many resources as possible.
It is in this way that Dakshina Kannada has become an exemplar for others to follow.
