A cylinder blast during the shooting of the Kannada film Ranam action sequence took the lives of two people in Bengaluru. The crew reportedly did not obtain permission for shooting.

Bengaluru: A woman and her child died, and another child was severely injured when a cylinder exploded during the shooting of an action sequence on the sets of Kannada movie Ranam.

Sumera, 28, and her daughter Arya, 8, died on the spot and another child who was severely injured has been admitted to a hospital in Yelahanka.

This is the second tragedy in three years where lives were lost during the shooting of a Kannada film after Masthi Gudi tragedy where two stuntmen drowned in a reservoir.

Ranam stars Chiranjeevi Sarja and Chetan Ahimsa. The movie is directed by Ahimsa.

The tragic incident occurred when stunt master Vijay was choreographing the action sequence and the cylinder which was on the sets accidentally exploded.

Ever since the tragic incident of Masthi Gudi, where the producers were accused of not obtaining permission before shooting at Thippagondanahalli Reservoir in Bengaluru, many discussions and promises were made by film bodies to ensure safety of film crew.

However, this incident has come as a haunting reminder that movie shootings, especially action sequences, are still conducted without taking necessary safety precautions.
