Amaravathi: Days after the cyclonic storm "Fani" hit the coastal areas of Odisha and claimed several people's lives, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday (May 5) announced Rs 15 crore financial help for the cyclone-hit state.

After a meeting with officials on Sunday, Naidu decided to announce financial support to take up relief works in areas affected by the extremely severe cyclone which hit Odisha coast near Puri on Friday.

While the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh escaped the cyclone, it claimed more than 20 people's lives in Odisha and caused massive devastation in Puri and other parts of Khurdha districts.

According to reports, Naidu said the cyclone caused severe damage in Odisha and also urged all the states to lend for relief and rehabilitation works.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief also said that Andhra Pradesh would extend all possible assistance to the neighbouring state, and had already dispatched electricity poles and personnel to Odisha.

Many villages in Odisha still do not have electricity and are also facing severe hardships due to lack of drinking water. Naidu urged the NGOs to come forward and take part in relief works in the cyclone-affected areas.
