Boeing has come forward to build a 200-bed hospital in the city during the Covid-19 pandemic that has hit the city hard

Bengaluru: As per a Livemint report, Boeing has come forward to build a 200-bed hospital in the city during the Covid-19 pandemic that has hit the city hard.

This comes at a time when the city is seeing a massive upsurge in the number of cases.

In fact, chief minister BS Yediyurappa himself announced the development. The facility will come up at the KPCL site in Bengaluru's Yelahanka where there is an assured oxygen supply from the KPCL gas plant. CM Yediyurappa emphasised that this would lessen the load on the existing oxygen supplies in the State, Swarajya notes.

The state has also written to the centre, seeking 1500 MT, while the centre has allocated 964 MT as of now.

Karnataka announces lockdown:

To stymie the spread of the virus, the state has announced a lockdown starting from May 10.

“The second wave of covid-19 is creating havoc across the state and the corona curfew imposed earlier has not given expected results in reducing the infection and death rate, therefore, we have decided to impose stringent measures,” Yediyurappa said.

“The situation of Covid-19 in the state was reviewed and it was observed that daily new Covid-19 positive cases have continued unabated with a high positivity rate. The state is satisfied that further stringent containment measures are needed to be implemented to combat the surge of cases,” its chief secretary said.
