The World Health Organisation has debunked myths and rumours that drinking alcohol and spraying chlorine all over the body will kill Coronavirus

Bengaluru: When an epidemic becomes a pandemic and begins to threaten people across the globe with its huge tentacles, people literally panic.
That’s understandable.

But as they get panic-stricken, it becomes a habit to fall prey to rumours with a view to getting rid of the consequences of the virus and staying healthy.

Now, as Coronavirus affects more than a lakh people across the globe and 39 people in India, there is a lot of misinformation being spread.

Here is a list:

1.     Have a hot water bath to kill the virus.

2.    Spray alcohol and chlorine all over your body.

3.    Drink alcohol to stay safe and kill the virus.

But the World Health Organisation (WHO) has issued a statement nullifying all these rumours.

It has categorially said that such efforts will only prove futile, adding that applying chlorine all over one’s body may prove dangerous.

It said, "No. Spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body will not kill viruses that have already entered your body. Be aware that both alcohol and chlorine can be useful to disinfect surfaces, but they need to be used under appropriate recommendations."

And it has reiterated that the best way to prevent the spread of the virus is to wash hands with a good soap on a regular basis.

When reports last came in while writing this article, the number of positive Coronavirus cases have risen to 43 across India.

The government of India has set up a screening procedure at all airports where incoming passengers are thoroughly checked and quarantined, if they are found to have contracted the deadly virus.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi too has urged the people to remain vigilant and wash their hands with a soap. He has also urged them to remain calm and not spread rumours and visit a doctor more suggestions are needed.
