Former AICC president Rahul Gandhi must consider himself lucky as the Supreme Court has given him a reprieve in the contempt of court case
Bengaluru: All thanks to his loose tongue, former AICC chief Rahul Gandhi found himself in an awkward and embarrassing situation.
Trying to score some political brownie points by dragging the Supreme Court into his childish ‘Chowkidar’ remark, he has only ended up mocking himself!
Any person in the post of a party president carries with him a lot of responsibility. Gravitas, needlessly, is a trait he can’t relinquish. That he was at the helm of affairs of a party which has a history of more than a century, he ought to have been more mature, rather than employing the shoot and scoot policy.
But again, Rahul Gandhi is not the only one to blabber such insanities. Remember another gentleman called Mani Shankar Aiyar? Well, a motormouth that he is, he was even expelled from the party for terming the Prime Minister Narendra Modi “neech”.
He was also in the news for his pejorative remarks on Lord Ram and his birthplace Ayodhya. Then again, you have another senior Congressman and a famed lawyer, Kapil Sibal, who found himself in an untenable situation, thanks to his remark, again on Lord Ram.
The list doesn’t end here. Digvijay Singh is another Congressman who has never shied away from making ludicrous remarks like the BJP has links with the ISI and non-Muslims spy more for Pakistan than Muslims.
Shashi Tharoor finds himself in the eye of a storm frequently. He was even issued an arrest warrant by a Kolkata court for his “Hindu Pakistan” comment.
Coming back to the issue or Rahul Gandhi and his slight for the Supreme Court, he must consider himself very, very lucky as the top court has let him off, with a warning.
The top court noted, “Mr Rahul Gandhi needs to be more careful in future.”
The case, related to contempt of court, was filed by BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi.
