Sandeep Dixit, a Congress leader had once termed the Army Chief General Bipin Rawat ‘sadak ka goonda’ as the Chief had spoken positively spoken about India’s preparedness for facing aggression, both internally and externally
Bengaluru: Army Chief General Bipin Rawat’s statement that leaders don’t mislead masses in relation to the anti-CAA protests in which there were a number of vandalism-related incidents has been criticised by the opposition.
Asaduddin Owaisi, the AIMIM chief said it was not necessary for the Army Chief to get into civil issues.
The Congress too did not spare the Army Chief.
But this is certainly not the first time that the Congress has left no stone unturned to harass and humiliate the Army Chief.
In 2017, its leader Sandeep Dixit had said, "Ours is not a mafia army like the Pakistani army which makes statements like thugs on the streets do. It looks bad when our army chief gives a statement like (he is) a "sadak ka goonda.”
The Army Chief was speaking in relation to India’s preparedness to face both internal and external aggression.
Not surprisingly, CPI(M)’s Brinda karat had supported Sandeep Dixit. She had said, "Army Chief Rawat's statements result in controversy, as (his) statements itself are objectionable.”
The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) intends to give citizenship to persecuted minorities from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan, numbering 32000 and who have come to India before December 31, 2014.
However, the opposition feels that persecuted Muslims too should be given citizenship in India, but the Modi government has maintained that Muslims can’t be religiously persecuted in their own country.
Though protests are fine, hooligans in the garb of students set fire to buses and infrastructure too has been damaged badly.
It is interesting to note that that the allegations of violation of Article 14 need not hold water as the concept intelligible differentia gives the government the right to devise schemes to discriminate positively.
The problem of illegal immigration has been a perennial one, with the India struggling to house them and take care of their needs.
