Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has used ‘trishul’ a weapon held sacred by Hindus to hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah

Bengaluru: Trishul or more frequently called trident, is a weapon which Lord Shiva holds.

It is a weapon which Hindus look upon with reverence.

But senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has used this tool to criticise PM Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah.

He said, “Mr Amit Shah and Mr Narendra Modi have a very powerful instrument in their hands-the Trishul. In the Trishul there are three things to poke you, the CBI, the ED and the Income Tax.”
Hours after the Congress leader made this statement, the BJP hit back, saying God can never be wrong.

Shreenath Sheshadri, a BJP spokesperson said, “Lord Shiva uses the trishul for the destruction of the wicked and for the sustenance of the virtuous people. So Jairam Ramesh may be true in identifying it, but his usage is wrong. God always does the right things.”

Jairam Ramesh was in Assam Jairam as a part of the six-member Congress team set up by party president Sonia Gandhi to meet party workers and people in the eight Northeastern states on the NRC and CAB.

Jairam Ramesh also accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah with using the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) as "political instruments to divide the country and polarize society on religious lines.”

Incidentally, a few months ago, it was none other than Jairam Ramesh himself who had said demonising Modi at all times was not right.

He had said, “He [Mr. Modi] talks in a language that connects him with the people. Unless we recognise that he is doing things which people recognise and which have not been done in the past, we are not going to able to confront this guy.”

The Congress leader had got able support from other party seniors like Shashi Tharoor and Abhishek Singhvi.
