Congress leader Abdullakutty commended the Centre’s Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan and Ujjwala Yojana, saying that they led the country towards progress and empowered the poor man.
Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader AP Abdullakutty recently came under the scanner when he showered praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his sweeping victory in the Lok Sabha elections.
A Facebook post by Abdullakutty late on Monday night said, “The political scene is undergoing a change. From now, victory will be for people who go with the development agenda.”
The Congress leader further irked party workers when he compared Narendra Modi to Mahatma Gandhi and said that the Prime Minister was successful because he followed Gandhian values. He praised various schemes of Prime Minister Modi, like the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA), the Ujjwala Yojana and also said that smart cities, bullet trains were such projects brought to life by Modi that no one could turn a blind eye to them.
His post also said, “Our politics is changing completely. Victory is with development. When Modi is criticised, these facts should be remembered.”
He also said,” Mahatma Gandhi had told social workers that when you formulate a policy, you should remember the face of a poor man whom you have met. Modi implemented it accurately.”
Mullapally Ramachandran, Congress’ Kerala president, told reporters that according to him, strong action needs to be taken against Abdullakutty. He also said that the party will look to seek an explanation from Abdullakutty.
CPI(M) leader and Kannur district secretary MV Jayarajan mocked Abdullakutty by saying that he is waiting to join the BJP. K Muralidharan, senior Congress leader put in that any Congress worker praising PM Modi would not be accepted and that it was wrong.
Earlier in March 2009, Abdullakutty was dismissed from CPM for praising Modi, who was the then Gujarat CM, as well as Sheila Dixit, the then Delhi CM, for the progress that they had brought about.
