Within a few days of his retirement, former Delhi high court judge Sunil Gaur has been made chairman of PMLA. While the Congress alleged that it is a case of quid pro quo, here’s a list of all the plum posts the Congress handed out to judges who were inclined towards the Congress

Bengaluru: The Congress, which often expresses its concerns over the independence of the judiciary, was caught trolling former Delhi high court judge Sunil Gaur.

Just to jog your memory, Gaur was the one who refused to grant anticipatory bail to former Union finance minister P Chidambaram in the INX media case.

The criticism by the Congress comes in the wake of Gaur being made the chairman of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) tribunal in less than a week of his retirement.

Though the Congress claims it’s a reward by the BJP for his alleged favour in denying bail to Chidambaram, we have gleaned a few cases in which the Congress has resorted to nepotism by rewarding those judges who favoured the Congress.

Judges

Reward given

Ranganath Mishra: Gave clean chit to Congress leaders in 1984 case

He was made an MP from Rajya Sabha from Odisha in the year 1988

MH Beg: Supported the government stand in the Kesavananda Bharti case

Awarded Padma Vibhushan by the Rajiv govt

Bahar-ul-Islam: Gave clean chit to Bihar CM Jagannath Mishra in a forgery case

Resigned as SC judge, contested on a Congress ticket from Barpeta

VN Khare: Admonished the then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi in the 2002 riots case

Given Padma Vibhushan under UPA-1

Tarun Chaterjee: Ordered CBI probe against Amit Shah just 2 days before he retired

Made commissioner to resolve Arunachal boundary row

These facts and figures have been extracted from a Times Now report.

These are only a few cases. Interestingly, in the National Herald case in which the mother-son duo of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are involved, they had filed a plea in the Delhi high court in October 2015, seeking that the case be remanded back to Gaur when it was listed before Judge PS Teji went back to Gaur.
