Bengaluru: A booklet released by All India Congress Seva Dal training camp run by the Congress in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh has claimed that co-founder of Hindu Mahasabha Veer Savarkar had a physical relationship with Nathuram Godse, Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin.

The booklet is titled 'How brave was Veer Savarkar'.

Referring to an incident mentioned in Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins's 'Freedom at Midnight', the Congress booklet said, "Before adopting brahmacharya, there is only one mention of Nathuram Godse's physical relationship. His [Godse] partner in his homosexual relationship was Veer Savarkar."

The booklet also has controversial questions in it. The questions include 'Did Savarkar encourage Hindus to rape of minority women?' and the answer to the question, as mentioned in the Congress's booklet, is a 'yes'.

It further humiliates Savarkar by saying he pelted stones at a mosque when he was 12 years of age.

With such profane description of Veer Savarkar, one question that comes to mind is: What will Shiva Sena do? They are in a coalition with the Congress and NCP in Maharashtra.

If there is any dignity and respect left in Shiva Sena, it would be much better to relinquish ties with the Congress and uphold the courage and self-respect Bal Thackeray had. The very pride of Maharashtra has been hurt by such allegations.

This insult to the great icon comes just weeks after former AICC chief Rahul Gandhi said, “I won’t apologise for speaking truth. I am not Rahul Savarkar.”

But on the contrary, Indira Gandhi, Rahul’s grandmother had reverence for Veer Savarkar. Savarkar’s grandson Ranjeet Savarkar once said, "Former prime minister Indira Gandhi honoured Veer Savarkar. I feel she was his follower because she brought Pakistan to its knees, strengthened the army and foreign relations, she also did nuclear tests.
