Two days after the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 (CAB) was passed in Lok Sabha, the Bill will be tabled in the Upper House around 2pm on Wednesday (December 11)

New Delhi: The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, is all set to be tabled in Rajya Sabha today (December 11), two days after it made its way through Lok Sabha.

The CAB, which invited a mixed reaction from the top political leaders will be tabled in Rajya Sabha at around 2pm. It is also expected to be followed by a debate in the Upper House, which, considering Monday's Lok Sabha discussion, could be fiery and heated.

While the BJP and the Centre are confident of getting the Bill passed in Rajya Sabha, the numbers game could prove to be tough.

In the recent Parliament session that took place before the Lok Sabha elections, the government ended up without the Bill being tabled in the Upper House even though Lok Sabha had passed it.

Earlier, Union home minister Amit Shah calmly replied to every charge made by the opposition against the government's intention to introduce Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). Many in his party felt that the BJP leader has finally come out of the shadow of his leader and mentor Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shah presented and discussed the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha on Monday as he stood his ground against the opposition, alone. Many in the party can't help but notice that Shah replied to every objection that came from opposition firmly. "It was the Home Minister's show in Parliament," stated a senior leader as Shah asked everyone repeatedly to voice their objections and concerns so that these can be addressed.
