Madras high court says it is tired of passing multiple orders against illegal flex boards. The high court’s statements come in the wake of a 23-year-old woman’s death in Chennai. The AIADMK has been blamed for the incident.

Chennai: A day after a 23-year-old’s life was cut short after a falling hoarding forced her under the wheels of a lorry, the Madras high court has said that it is tired of passing multiple orders against flex boards.

Justice Seshasayee said, “there is zero respect for lives in this country. It's bureaucratic apathy. Sorry we have lost faith in the Govt.”
The high court further said, "The only thing the court has not done yet in this issue is to shift the state secretariat to the high court. We have done everything else."

The Madras high court bench said it will soon take up a contempt petition filed by activist Traffic’ Ramaswamy in connection with illegal hoardings.

'Traffic' Ramaswamy had lodged a complaint at the Pallikaranai police station demanding that FIR be registered against erring officials including concerned police officer, corporation department official and ruling party persons, who erected the illegal hoarding on the road.

His demand had come hours after Subashree was killed on Thursday.

C Jayagopal who was an AIADMK councillor has been booked after an illegal hoarding claimed the life of a 23-year-old woman in Chennai on Thursday.
Acting on a complaint of an assistant engineer of the Chennai corporation, the police have registered a case against Jayagopal under Section 4 of The Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1959 for installing the hoarding without permission.

The Chennai corporation had earlier filed a case under Section 326 of the Chennai City Municipal Corporation Act, 1919.

DMK chief MK Stalin addressed reporters and said, "I reiterate that DMK party cadres must avoid banners, flex, posters etc to advertise party-related events. Only one or two can be used with permission. Strict action will be taken against those who violate & I will not participate in that event."

AIADMK issues statement

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has issued a statement on the issue saying that it has always been in the party’s mission to work for the people. It said, “Cadres should not erect banners or posters that will cause inconvenience to the public. Some overenthusiastic cadres put up these banners without thinking of its repercussions it could have on the society and the public in general. We are pained to know the hardship such banners cause to the public.
