Centre transfers, appoints new governors; Anandiben Patel is Uttar Pradesh governor

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday (July 20) transferred two governors and made fresh appointments in some states of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland and Bihar.

Former interlocutor on Naga talks RN Ravi has been appointed as Nagaland governor, according to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique.

Senior advocate and former Janata Dal MP Jagdeep Dhankhar has been appointed the West Bengal governor. He will replace Keshari Nath Tripathi.

Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel has been shifted to Uttar Pradesh and her place will be filled by Bihar Governor Lalji Tandon, the communique said.

Phagu Chauhan will replace Tandon as Bihar governor. Ramesh Bais has been appointed as the governor of Tripura. He will replace Kaptan Singh Solanki.

The statement released by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said that the above appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices. On Tuesday, President Kovind had appointed BJP leaders Anysuya Uikey and Biswa Bhusan Harishchandran as the governors of Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.

On Monday, he had announced the appointment of former Union minister Kalraj Mishra as the governor of Himachal Pradesh and incumbent Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Devvrat was transferred and appointed as governor of Gujarat.
