The Hindu Mahasabha has written a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top BJP leaders, asking them to drop criminal cases against Kar Sevaks involved in the Babri masjid demolition case.
Bengaluru: Buoyed the supreme court’s verdict in relation to the Ayodhya issue in the favour of Hindus, the Hindu Mahasabha, headed by Swami Chakrapani, has written a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah and UP chief Yogi Adityanath, asking them to withdraw criminal cases against Kar Sevaks who were allegedly responsible for felling the Babri mosque. The letter also seeks the status of a ‘martyr’ for these Kar Sevaks.
Excerpts of the letter:
"Now that it has been made clear that the Ram Lalla is an undisputed temple area (in Ayodhya), it has also become clear that the dome made on top of it was the dome of a temple and not of any supposed Babri Masjid. Hence, the criminal cases of bringing down the Babri mosque was an act by Ram worshippers who unknowingly brought down the shikhar of temple. I urge that the government withdraw the pending cases against them and end the matter".
Much earlier than 1992, that is in 1990, a few Kar Sevaks were fired upon while they attempted to do Kar Seva in Ayodhya, near the site that was under dispute. Several were killed, leading to a national outrage.
In addition to these pleas, the Mahasabha also wants a plaque to be put up, with the names of the Kar Sevaks on it.
The Mahasabha also urges the top BJP leaders to use the term Dharmik Senani or religions fighters for these Kar Sevaks.
In a landmark judgement, the top court brought down curtains on the centuries-old Babri dispute by awarding the disputed land of 2.77 acres to Hindus and asking the government to allot 5 acres of land to the Muslims.
The court also directed the government to form a board in three months to look into the construction of the temple.
