Bengaluru: In what can be seen as a palpable impetus to Khadi sales, its demand has increased exponentially, paving way for brighter financial prospects.

In the financial year 2019-20, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) expects a turnover of Rs 5,000 crore. This happens to be around Rs 1,800 crore more than previous year’s Rs 3,215 crore, as reported Financial Express.

“Last year, our turnover was Rs 3215 crore (for Khadi). This year (FY 2019-20), a turnover of Rs 5000 crore is expected,” KVIC chairman Vinay Kumar Saxena was quoted as saying.
What fuel such high demand for Khadi are how PM Modi has taken sufficient steps to promote it and the likelihood of people of smaller towns using Khadi products on a grander and greater scale.

“As many as 8070 Khadi India outlets have been opened across the country. Of these, over 2000 outlets were opened across the country in the last two years only. Over 2000 ‘Khadi Bhandars’ have also been renovated,” added Vinay Kumar.

There is also another factor that is heartening to note. And that is the fact that KVIC is also manufacturing Khadi products for the paramilitary forces.
“We are trying to increase our reach everywhere to boost the sale of Khadi products,” Saxena added.

The credit for Khadi sale upsurge must go to PM Narendra Modi, for he has taken it upon himself to talk about the importance of Khadi ever since he became PM.

He has talked about it in his I-Day speeches, his Mann Ki Baat addresses and urged people to buy products as they would increase revenues, as also increase employment in the sector.
Stas revealed by Financial Express gives a thumbs up to this fact.

The average sales of Khadi sector stood at Rs 914.07 crore between 2004 and 2014. This increased by a whopping 100.02% between 2015 and 2018 to Rs 1828.30 crore. The average export of Khadi and village industries products also increased from Rs 87.77 crore between 2004 and 2014 to Rs 204.75 crore between 2015 and 2018.

Now that the sales are expected to increase in the current financial year, let’s hope that there are brighter fortunes for its employees.
