Bar dancer rape case: Mumbai court grants anticipatory bail to son of Kerala CPM leader

The court stated that rape accused Binoy Vinodini Balakrishnan is required to pay a security deposit of Rs 25,000. If police deem it necessary, Binoy may have to undergo a DNA test and is also required to hand over blood samples. He should refrain from influencing any witness, the court said.

Mumbai: The Mumbai Dindoshi sessions court granted anticipatory bail to rape accused Binoy Vinodini Balakrishnan on Wednesday. The court had granted CPI(M) Kerala secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's oldest son Binoy bail under strict conditions including, presenting himself before police officers every week for a month.

The accused is also required to pay a security deposit of Rs 25,000. The court also stated that If police deem it necessary, Binoy would have to undergo a DNA test and hand over blood samples. He should not try to influence any witness, the court remarked.

A 33-year-old former bar dancer, on June 13, filed a complaint stating Binoy had raped her on the fake promise of marrying her. Her complaint also stated that Binoy had been sexually assaulting her for over 10 years (2008-2018) and that she has an 8-year-old child of whom Binoy is the father.

Earlier, the victim had produced evidence like the birth certificate of her son, in which Binoy is listed as the father. Along with the birth certificate of her son, the former bar dancer also produced her passport and bank details, which has Binoy named as her husband.

Earlier, Mumbai Police had travelled to Kannur and later Thiruvananthapuram to arrest Binoy but returned empty-handed.
