As the head of the country, the Prime Minister has repeatedly exhorted parties not to resort to any behaviour that would foment trouble as regards the Ayodhya verdict.
Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated that the country should remain united as and when the Ayodhya verdict is passed by the Supreme Court.
He urged the people thus: “We should not allow tension to build up when such situations come.”
The Prime Minister has consistently maintained that the judiciary must be given its due in deciding such sensitive issues. Earlier this year, when he gave an interview to a news agency, he had stressed that, “Let the judicial process be over. After the judicial process is over, whatever will be our responsibility as the government, we are ready to make all efforts. We have said in our BJP manifesto that a solution would be found to this issue under the ambit of the Constitution.”
He had also urged the Congress lawyers not to behave hostilely.
He had said, “In the court, Congress lawyers, who are creating obstacles, should stop. Let the judicial process take its own course. not create obstacles. I beseech the Congress, for the sake of national peace and amity, they should stop its lawyers from stalling this [Ayodhya issue] in the court.”
The PM’s exhortation was not followed when Rajeev Dhavan, a senior counsel for Muslim parties tore up maps and allied documents related to the controversial site in the supreme court.
Way back in 2010, the Allahabad High Court had trifurcated the land to distributed it to the litigants. Modi recalled how peace prevailed during that period when there was a situation that could eventually manifest into a heated cauldron of communal conflagration.
He said, “Thanks to the people of India, social organisations, sanths, seers and leaders of all faiths. It became a day that furthered unity and the judiciary was also respected.”
The Ayodhya verdict is expected to be out after the Diwali vacation, anytime between November 4 and 17.
