Amit Shah tweeted, "Agony of the entire Sikh community. Suffering of all those Sikh families killed by Congress leaders in 1984. Attack on Delhi's secular ethos. All summed up in these three words by Sam Pitroda - Hua To Hua."

New Delhi: BJP president Amit Shah hit out at Congress leader Sam Pitroda for his insensitive "hua to hua" comment on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Shah said that Pitroda’s remark was an attack on secular ethos.

The veteran Congress leader and Rahul Gandhi’s advisor reacting to BJP’s claim that that the "instructions to kill" in 1984 came from then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, said: "This is also another lie, and what about 1984? 1984 hua toh hua. Aapne kya kiya paanch saal mein, uski baat kariye. '84 mein hua to hua. (You speak about what you have done in five years. It happened in 1984, so what?)".

Shah took to Twitter to slam Pitroda. He wrote, "Agony of the entire Sikh community. The suffering of all those Sikh families killed by Congress leaders in 1984. Attack on Delhi's secular ethos. All summed up in these three words by Sam Pitroda - Hua To Hua."

However, the war of words between the two leaders does not seem to end. Following Shah’s jibe, Pitroda tweeted, “BJP is talking about these issues and attacking Congress leaders with lies because they can not talk about their performance and have no vision to take India forward to inclusively growth and prosperity for all with focus on Jobs, kids and more Jobs.”

He also said, “I acknowledged the pain of my Sikh brothers and sisters during difficult times in 1984 and deeply feel for the atrocities that happened.”

The 1984 Sikh Massacre, was a series of organised pogroms against Sikhs in the nations, which was triggered by the assassination of  Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards. It is believed that about 8,000–17,000 Sikhs were slaughtered in cold blood.
