In an important move, Assam has decided to vaccinate its younger population (18+) free of cost
Bengaluru: India is fighting the covid crisis with all its might.
Presently, those with comorbidity and 45+ years of age are being vaccinated across the country.
A few days ago, the central government took the decision to inoculate youngsters (18+) from May 1.
States are going all out to purchase vaccine doses to meet the demand starting May 1.
Now, news reports add that Assam government is all set to vaccinate its young population free of cost.
Reports also state that the government has placed an order of 1 crore with Bharat Biotech for covaxin.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam’s health minister wrote on this twitter timeline thus: “Assam will give FREE vaccines to everyone from 18-45 years. GOI is giving free vaccines for 45 +. Funds collected in Assam Arogya Nidhi last year shall be utilized for procurement of vaccines. Today itself, we’ve placed orders for 1 cr doses with @BharatBiotech”.
India’s vaccines:
Presently, India has approved the use of covishield and covaxin. It has also approved Sputnik-V and has green-lit the proposal of importing vaccines.
As the virus spreads, India took the all-important step of vaccinating the younger population, thereby taking an efficient step to thwart a possible third wave.
It is also to be noted that India is the first country to have vaccinated more than 12 crore people, at the same time, exporting the doses to well over 80 countries.
In his address to the nation on April 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to stay indoors and follow covid protocols. He also exhorted everyone to do their bit in order to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
