By comparing Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to eunuchs, Shashi Tharoor, the senior Congress leader has only lowered political discourse

Bengaluru: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor never shies away from flirting with controversies.

In his latest episode of embarrassment, Shashi Tharoor has compared Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to eunuchs.

He made fun of the Delhi CM for his “wanting power without responsibilities” on CNNNews18.

– Mr. Kejriwal really wants power without responsibility, which we all know has been the prerogative of eunuchs for ages: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor ()

Shashi Tharoor was responding to a question on why Arvind Kejriwal had not shown support to the students of JNU and the anti-CAA protests.

“Mr Kejriwal is trying to have it both ways. He has made statements deploring the CAA-NRC saying why is it necessary, government should withdraw it, but he has not taken any tangible action. He has not even shown the human compassion one expects of the chief minister towards the victims of violence in his own state. In any other states if the students were bashed up this way, the chief minister of the state would have visited them at home or shown them some concern, gone to their campuses. Mr Kejriwal really wants power without responsibility, which we all know has been the prerogative of the eunuchs for ages.”

Irrespective of what Shashi Tharoor says or Arvind Kejriwal does, the more important question is: Why should protests be held across the country when the CAA doesn’t apply to Indian citizens at all?

The Act grants citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim minorities of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who have come to India before December 31, 2014.

Back to the issue of Shashi Tharoor’s goof-ups, he loves controversies, doesn’t he? His endeavour to warn Islamic fundamentalists not to chant hijack the CAA protests met with severe backlash.
Secondly, he tried to make amends with this by comparing Hindutva to Christianity and Islam, thereby earning more wrath.

Thirdly, he tweeted a message of tolerance and acceptance by Swami Vivekananda on National Youth Day, but on the same day, he received opposition on Jamia Millia for his “Islamic fundamentalism” comments.
