There are reports that the Maharashtra government may withdraw Govardhan Govansh Seva Kendra, a scheme meant to boost infrastructure at cow sheds (gaushalas), especially set up to conserve, protect and develop cattle and progeny. This was brought in by the Devendra Fadnavis government.

Bengaluru: Ever since the coalition government came in Maharashtra (Shiva Sena, NCP and Congress) there is no certainty on how to run the government. While Uddhav Thackeray continues to be the chief minister of the state, he seems to be a toy in the hands of the NCP and Congress.

In the latest on the list of invalidating schemes brought in by the previous Devendra Fadnavis government, there are reports that the Maharashtra government may withdraw Govardhan Govansh Seva Kendra, a scheme meant to boost infrastructure at cow sheds (gaushalas), especially set up to conserve, protect and develop cattle and progeny.

Dairy and animal husbandry minister Sunil Kedar told that the current government is taking a review of the scheme.

“We have not reached any conclusions yet. The department has been asked to review the scheme and prepare a report on how much funds have been spent, the impact of the scheme and other details,” as reported by Times of India.

The paper added that a senior official is of the view that funds may not be released from now on as neither Congress nor NCP — constituents of the MVA, along with Shiv Sena — is interested to go ahead with the scheme.

It is interesting to note that a minister further said that the Uddhav Thackeray-led government is not in a mood to continue with the scheme also because most gaushala functionaries are linked to RSS.

Last week, the minorities minister in the Maharashtra government informed the house that they will introduce a bill to reserve 5% seats for Muslims in Maharashtra schools and colleges.
Uddhav Thackeray, as some suggested has kowtowed to the demands of the coalition partners.

But when reports last came in, it is being said that the government is doing a rethink on the issue with massive opposition from the BJP.

Shiva Sena and the BJP were prepoll partners in the Maharashtra elections. But after the alliance crossed the magic number, Shiva Sena began to play truant. Ultimately, it formed a government with the NCP and Congress.
