MHA cancels Bangladeshi actor Ferdous’ visa over TMC campaign

Trinamool sources say Ferdous was approached by the ruling party to campaign for them in Bengal. It has also questioned if he has indulged in the violation of visa conditions.

New Delhi: A huge row broke out after Ferdous was spotted campaigning for TMC along with Tollywood actors Payel Sarkar and Ankush. He also took part in road shows in both Raiganj and Hemtabad.  

Trinamool sources say Ferdous was approached by the ruling party to campaign for them in Bengal. It has not only raised the question of legality on whether a foreign national can campaign for any candidate in an Indian election but also poses a more significant issue of whether he indulged in violation of visa conditions.

It snowballed into a massive controversy after BJP raised an objection to it and accused TMC of pandering to Muslim votes. BJP Bengal in charge Kailash Vijayvargiya took a dig at TMC on twitter and said, "It seems Mamata has a special affection for Bangladesh".

After Ferdous, Gazi Abdun Noor another Bangladeshi actor was seen campaigning for the ruling Trinamool Congress in Bengal. This poll season, TMC seems to be banking heavily on Bangladeshi actors to campaign for them, even as the issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators is raging.
