Ahead of TDP's warning of 'Chalo Atmakur' protest, the Jagan Mohan Reddy government has kept TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh under house arrest in Andhra Pradesh. Naidu had called for 12-hour hunger strike across the state.

Amaravati: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief, former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu, his son Nara Lokesh are under house arrest ahead of the party’s scheduled protest.

TDP had called for a protest march on Wednesday against Andhra Pradesh chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). TDP had alleged that YSRCP had attacked its workers.

Eight party workers had been killed in the Palnadu region by YSRCP leaders, alleged TDP.

No meeting, rally, procession or protest could be staged in the region as Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code and Section 30 of the Police Act were in force, stated director general of police Gowtham Sawang.

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu had said his party would go ahead with the protest to highlight the “excesses” committed on their cadre by the YSRCP leaders.

As TDP has not got permission to stage protest, Naidu called for a 12-hour hunger strike across Andhra Pradesh.

Currently, Section 144 has been imposed in Narasaraopeta, Sattenapalle, Palnadu and Gurajala.

TDP had planned 'Chalo Atmakur' protest and Nara Lokesh said that struggle would continue till justice is delivered to the victims of violence perpetrated by the YSRCP.

According to the earlier schedule, Naidu was to meet the victims of violence at a camp in Guntur, today (September 11).

However, even YSRCP had decided to stage protest alleging attack on its members by the TDP.

YSRCP spokesman Ambati Rambabu slammed Naidu and said that organising Chalo Atmakur was a political gimmick as TDP lost to YSRCP in a humiliating defeat in the recently held Assembly elections.
