Replying positively, the Andhra Pradesh chief minister ordered the release of water to Tamil Nadu.
Reports say it will take at least a month for the water in Andhra Pradesh to reach Tamil Nadu.
The water will be released from Srisailam to Pothireddypadu through KC canal and will reach the Somasila reservoir. It will later be released to the Kandaleru dam and will reach Chennai through the Telugu Ganga canal.
Tamil Nadu has been reeling under acute water crisis for the past several months as Chennai's Porur Lake, one of the main sources of water, has reached its lowest level. Moreover, scorching heat and a delayed monsoon have further worsened the situation.
