It is reportedly said that Air India flights from Srinagar to New Delhi would cost Rs. 6,715 while flights from New Delhi to Srinagar would cost Rs. 6,899.

New Delhi: Air India has revised the fares of all its flights from Delhi to Srinagar and vice versa till August 15, a spokesperson for the airline said on Sunday (August 4).

The revision in fares came after the advisory issued on Friday (August 3) directing the tourists and Amarnath Yatra pilgrims to leave the Valley immediately citing security concerns.

According to reports, Dhananjay Kumar, the spokesperson of Air India, said that flights from Srinagar to New Delhi would cost Rs 6,715 while flights from New Delhi to Srinagar would cost Rs 6,899.

The ministry of civil aviation has advised airlines to rein in surging airfares for pilgrims returning from Amarnath Yatra. Airfares for flights from Srinagar over the weekend shot up to abnormally high levels following the security advisory for tourists and pilgrims.

According to reports, flights that used to cost less from Srinagar to Delhi such as IndiGo, SpiceJet, GoAir and AirAsia are now charging passengers between Rs 10,000 to Rs 22,000.

Web portals of several airlines with flights from Srinagar on Saturday and Sunday showed that virtually all seats were sold out.

The advisory to Amarnath pilgrims was issued after it was announced in a press conference of the Army and police forces in Srinagar that weapons and ammunition were recovered in the Amarnath Yatra route.

They also said Pakistan terrorists were planning to attack the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, based on credible inputs.

Soon after DGCA's directions, airlines made announcements to give a full fee waiver on rescheduling/cancellation for all its flights to/from Srinagar.
