Delhi police released the names of 9 suspects in the violence that rocked the JNU campus last Sunday. Interestingly, Aishe Ghosh, the president of JNUSU too has been named as a suspect
Bengaluru: It may be easy to fool the human eye, but surely not the roving eyes of the police.
In what comes as a massive embarrassment for Aishe Ghosh, the president of the JNUSU, the Delhi police, in a presser held this evening, held her as a suspect, along with 8 others for the violence unleashed on the JNU campus last Sunday.
Joy Tirke, DCP, Crime Branch added Aishe Ghosh led mob that attacked Periyar hostel. The others named are Chunchun Kumar, Pankaj Mishra, Waskar Vijay, Sucheta Talukraj, Priya Ranjan, Dolan Sawant, Yogendra Bhardwaj, and Vikas Patel as suspects.
Police also added that the suspects were associated with four Left-wing organisations—Students Front of India (SFI), All India Students Federation (AISF), All India Students Association (AISA) and Democratic Students Federation (DSF).
On the issue of the cause leading to the violence, Tirke did not mince words in saying that the parties were against the ongoing winter registration process on the campus that resulted in several scuffles since January 3.
“A large majority of students want to register but the mentioned groups and their sympathizers are not allowing students to do the same,” Tirkey added.
On the other hand, Aishe Ghosh said, “I don’t fear anything, I have not done anything wrong. This is all being done to create a narrative, there is no basis behind the charge. I too have evidence of how I was attacked”.
On Sunday last, around 100 men, with their faces masked, entered the campus and unleashed a reign of terror on students and teachers alike, also vandalising and demolishing JNU property at will.
But even before a thorough probe could emerge, many Left-leaning liberals had no scruples in blaming the ABVP for the onslaught.
However, of the nine suspects, two do belong to the ABVP. The police will send them notices and start interrogation soon.
