Fearing that the girl may reveal his identity, Nandu (30), the accused, threw the 4-year-old tribal girl into a well after he had raped her
Indore: A 4-year-old tribal girl was kidnapped, raped and then thrown into a well in Indore on Monday. Police arrested the accused within 24 hours of the incident.
According to a statement by Indore Zone’s additional director general of police Varun Kapoor, the girl was sleeping with her parents in a hut near Kushta Seva Samiti, when they awoke around 2 am to notice that their daughter was missing. They searched for the girl for a while and later approached the Hiranagar Police Station.
A special team combed the area and found the girl’s body in a nearby well on Monday evening. The post mortem report established that the girl had been raped before she was murdered and thrown into the well.
After questioning 200 suspects, police zeroed in on Nandu Gamad, a tribal from Jhabua who lived in the locality.
Nandu is said to have confessed that he abducted the girl while her parents were asleep, took her to the fields and raped her. Fearing that she would reveal his identity, he later strangled her to death and dumped her body in the well.
Kapoor said that forensics reports corroborated Nandu’s confession.
