Just days after the news of a seven-year-old found dead in Coimbatore sent shock waves across Tamil Nadu, reports of a 15-year-old kidnapped and gangraped, have come in. Police have made two arrests and are looking for one person who is currently absconding.
Kanchipuram: An auto driver and his friend have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a 15-year-old in Kanchipuram. The duo and their friends allegedly raped the teenager over two days.
The minor was on her way to a temple, as usual, on Monday when she was stopped by the auto driver who offered to drop her to the temple.
The temple was found closed and the auto driver offered to take her to another temple.
She was then taken to an isolated area, into a small room. The auto driver called some of his friends too.
The men took turns to rape the minor multiple times over a period of two days.
The girl’s parents began looking for the girl and lodged a missing person complaint with the Kanchipuram police.
The Kanchipuram police found the girl in an unconscious state on Tuesday and rushed her to a government hospital where it came to light that she had been raped.
The police registered an FIR under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and swung into action to question around 40 auto drivers from the stand where she had taken the auto.
They produced photographs of auto drivers to help the girl in identifying the culprits.
Based on her identification, the police arrested two auto drivers –Deva and Rajan -- who later confessed to the crime. The hunt is on for the third accused in the case, identified as Dinesh.
This incident comes just days after a seven-year-old had been kidnapped, sexually assaulted and then murdered in Coimbatore.
The girl was playing outside when she was kidnapped and her body was found in the wee hours, the following day.
Coimbatore saw protests demanding speedy justice to the child and her family.
The Coimbatore Police then arrested a 35-year-old divorcee who allegedly confessed to sexually abusing the child for over six months.
He has now been sent to judicial remand.
