19-year-old girl found murdered in Pollachi

A teenager who was on her way to her native was found dead on Saturday evening. The girl who left for her village on Friday didn’t reach home as expected. Her parents filed a missing complaint. The girl was found dead with her neck slashed. Police suspect she was murdered after being sexually assaulted.

Pollachi: A 19-year-old girl was found dead with stab injuries in Coimbatore’s Pollachi. Police suspect that the girl was murdered after being sexually assaulted.

The girl had been missing since Friday and was found dead on Saturday evening.

Police said that locals of the village noticed the body and informed them. The Kattur police had received a missing persons complaint and the complainant was asked to identify the body.

A senior police official said that the complainant identified the deceased as his daughter.

“We are investigating the case to identify whether it is a rape and murder case or just a murder over one-side love as the girl’s parents had her engaged to be married. There are many stab injuries on the girl’s body,” the official added.

The officer further said that the girl was studying the second year in a private college at Coimbatore and had boarded a bus to her village.

“The girl who left for college on Friday did not return home. Her parents lodged a complaint at Kattur police station,” the officer said.

The victim’s body was sent to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.

An FIR has been registered under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

Four special teams have been formed to probe the case. The police are now analysing CCTV footage near the teen’s college. 

The 19-year-old’s murder occurs even as the state and the town of Pollachi is yet to come to terms with the sexual assault cases.

Four men have been arrested in the Pollachi sexual assault case that has sparked outrage among the public. The case is now with the CB-CID who

are investigating it. 

Two police officers who were investigating the case have also been transferred after they failed to follow protocol and guidelines while

investigating sexual crimes.
