Gopal, a 35-year-old gau rakshak from Haryana was shot dead by cow mafia in Haryana a few days ago. But it is being alleged that his death is being hushed up because he is a Hindu. #PersecutionOfHindus is the hot debate of the moment.

Bengaluru: India is a country that prides itself in the fact that it is a secular nation. Every religion and every individual, irrespective of his religion has to be accorded equality. At no cost, should he be persecuted for the faith he professes.

But in reality, is it so?

Take for instance, the latest case in which a 35-year-old man named Gopal was shot to death in Haryana as he chased a vehicle illegally transporting cattle.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Several incidents of a similar nature have taken place in the country for a long, long time. However, self-proclaimed intellectuals or the conscience keepers of the country are now being shamed for their “shocking” act of keeping mum when the victims of the majority community come under persecution from the rival gang.

However, if the case pertains to a minority member being lynched, these men and women of reputation are known to shout their lungs out, advertising to the whole the issue of intolerance, traits of alleged zealotry and the like.

The BJP blames the Left ideology for the development.

“This has been happening all through due to the Left intellectual groups. They point out only negatives on one side and cover up issues which weaken their stance. In many cases, they do a lot of pick and choose to highlight the issues which suit their narrative. It is pretty obvious they are doing the same about gau rakshaks. If gau rakshaks can’t take law into their own hands, nor can gau bhakshaks,” says Sreenath Sheshadri, a BJP spokesperson.

He further adds, “Basically, a country of this size has issues that should be seen objectively. But if they are taken only for the sake of sensationalism, it is nothing but hypocrisy.”

MyNation reiterates that all human beings, irrespective of their religions, caste or creed are valuable and no one should be lynched. Hope the perpetrators are brought to book.
