"I am the older brother to India": Nick Jonas on being dubbed 'National Jiju'

Nick Jonas is an American singer and actor who was formerly part of the Jonas Brothers band along with his brothers Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas. He is known for his several superhit songs, such as Close, Jealous, Sucker, and many more. However, in India, he is most famously known for marrying the Indian superstar, Priyanka Chopra. The couple got married on December 1, 2018, and since then, the whole nation has dubbed Nick Jonas the 'National Jiju'. 

Talking about his special Indian nickname on Jimmy Fallon's 'The Tonight Show', Nick opened up about being married to an Indian woman and being called 'National Jiju'. He also explained the meaning of 'Jiju' to Jimmy Fallon and his audience. 

When Jimmy asked about being called 'Jiju', Nick said, "As you know I am married to Priyanka. When we got married this hashtag started. I was ‘National Jiju.’ Jiju means elder sister's husband, so effectively I'm the older brother to India.”

Jimmy then played a clip of the Jonas Brothers concert in India, where Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas playfully introduced Nick as 'Jiju'. 

 

 

Recently, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas came to Mumbai, India, to attend the grand wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant. The Indian paparazzi playfully greeted Nick Jonas as 'Jiju' as he posed on the red carpet with Priyanka Chopra. Nick loves being called 'Jiju' and does not mind the playful nod. 

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra got married in a regal wedding at Umaid Bhawan Palace in 2018. The couple together welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Malti Marie, in January 2022.
