Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) carried out a massive protest rally outside the campus against the fee hike. Protesters claimed that Vice Chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar has turned down repeated requests to meet them and discuss recent hostel fee hike.
Hundreds of JNU students were seen carrying out a march from Freedom Square to AICTE Auditorium with banners against the 'massive fee hike'.
Students blocked roads near the campus and shouted slogans amid heavy police presence. The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union said the fee hike crushes the dream of equality irrespective of the ability to afford.
According to reports, the university has hiked the hostel fee by nearly 300%, which will affect an overwhelming number of students.
Police stopped several students this morning when they tried to cross barricades and march towards the All India Council for Technical Education.
