Raksha Bandhan 2024 will be celebrated on August 19th. On this day, sisters traditionally tie a Rakhi on their brothers' wrists and offer them sweets. However, during festivals, the chances of adulteration in market-bought sweets increase. If you're concerned about health, and wish to make sweets at home instead of buying them, here's a recipe for you. It may sound unusual, but you can easily prepapre barfi using leftover rotis.

Ingredients

•    8-10 leftover rotis
•    1 cup gram flour (besan)
•    1 teaspoon ghee
•    4-5 tablespoons sugar
•    1/2 tablespoon cardamom powder
•    1 teaspoon poppy seeds
•    1 cup saffron milk
•    1/2 tablespoon grated coconut
•    Chopped dry fruits and silver foil for garnishing

Follow these instructions:

Step 1: Start by grinding the stale rotis into small pieces using a mixer. Continue grinding until the rotis turn into a fine powder. Transfer this powder into a bowl and set it aside. Next, add 1 cup of gram flour to the powder and mix well.

Step 2: Meanwhile, heat a pan and add the mixture to it. Pour in 1 spoon of ghee and fry the mixture for 15-20 minutes until it turns light brown. As it cooks, the mixture will become quite moist. Once you notice a fragrant aroma, add the cardamom powder, sugar, and poppy seeds, and continue frying for another 5-6 minutes.

Step 3: In the final step, add saffron milk and grated coconut to the mixture, stirring well until it thickens. Once thickened, remove it from the heat. Take a plate, grease it with ghee, and evenly spread the mixture on it. Garnish with chopped dry fruits and silver paper, then cut it into barfi shapes. Serve and enjoy!
