On July 4, 2018, actor Sonali Bendre revealed that she has been diagnosed with high-grade cancer and is undergoing treatment in New York.
Irrfan Khan recently wrote a letter to his fans, expressing his feelings and journey through his ongoing cancer treatment in London.
As much as it breaks our hearts to know that some of our favourite actors have been diagnosed with cancer, we are confident they will seek strength and inspiration from their fellow Bollywood examples who put up a great fight and defeated the disease.
Anurag Basu
Jagga Jasoos director Anurag Basu was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic Leukemia in 2004. Back then, the doctors said he has only two months, but that did not stop him from dreaming high. And the filmmaker battled it out to come out as a winner. Bravo!
Lisa Ray
Model turned actress Lisa Ray, who appeared in films such as Water and Veerappan, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (a cancer of plasma cells) in 2009. After a year-long treatment, Lisa succeeded in defeating the disease. She announced that she had a full stem cell replacement and was completely healed and is back to travel and modelling!
Manisha Koirala
Actress Manisha Koirala’s cancer was diagnosed after she fell unconscious in 2012 and later was admitted to a city hospital. In her early 40s, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Manisha also went to New York for her cancer treatment and came out of the illness. She came back with a bang not only on the silver screen, but is also part of the hit web series, Lust Stories.
Mumtaz
The veteran actress Mumtaz left her fans speechless when she fought breast cancer at the age of 54. According to reports, she fought for 11 long years and got cured. In an interview, she was quoted as saying, "I don't give up easily. Even death will have to fight me.”
Yuvraj Singh
Not only cine stars, Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh was also diagnosed with Stage 1 Lung Cancer. The news came out just after India won the 2011 World Cup for India and the left-handed all-rounder was named the 'Player of the Tournament'. Later he took a break and went to the US and underwent chemotherapy. In March 2012 he came back to India and resumed donning the blue jersey. In 2016, he got married to actress Hazel Keech and played for Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
