Veteran actor, ad guru Alyque Padamsee breathes his last at 90

Advertising guru Alyque Padamsee died in Mumbai on Saturday morning, family sources said. He was 90. 

Mumbai: Alyque Padamsee, one of the famous Adman and theatre personalities passed away in Mumbai today at 90. He was known for portraying the role as Muhammad Ali Jinnah in 1982 movie Gandhi. 

Alyque Padamsee was the head of one of the famous ad agencies called Lintas India. The agency has created many successful ad campaigns such as Lalitaji for Surf, the Liril girl, Cherry Charlie for Cherry Blossom Shoe Polish, the MRF muscle man among others.  

He was also a renowned personality in English theatre productions, he produced notable plays like Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar and Broken Images. Born to wealthy Khoja Muslim couple Jafferbhai and Kulsumbai Padamsee of Gujarat, one of his brothers is the famous modern Indian art painter Akbar Padamsee. 

President Ram Nath Kovind conveyed his condolences on Twitter, "Sorry to hear of the passing of Alyque Padamsee, creative guru, theatre personality and doyen of our ad industry. My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. (SIC)"

Alyque Padamsee is survived by three former wives and four children besides other relatives. He was also known as 'Brand Father of Indian advertising'.
